Disappearing Meteorite?

I would share with my social network this article from CNN news about a crater that mysteriously appeared in Nicaragua overnight, accompanied by a "loud explosion." Luckily, the alleged space rock seems to have impacted an uninhabited area, but I feel that astronomers should have foreseen such an event and publicized it ahead of time, because meteorites can cause significant damage to cities and injuries to people, and these could be prevented with proper warning.
